PROJECT MANAGER, TERMINAL CONSTRUCTION

BC Ferries has an ambitious and growing capital plan and the Terminal Construction department is looking for a regular, full-time Project Manager to support the planning and delivery of over 230 capital projects at our 47 terminals. Our projects include everything from berth replacements to terminal redevelopments, building tenant improvements to electrical upgrades, and everything in between.
Whether it is marine, civil, or building projects, you will have the opportunity to lead large, challenging and complex projects, work with diverse stakeholder groups and regulatory agencies, and deliver results in operationally complex environments. The Role
As a results-oriented and experienced Project Manager, your goal is to effectively lead and manage a wide variety of construction projects at our terminals. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Terminal Project Management Office, you will lead multiple projects from initiation to close out; as well as provide support to our departmental safety programs, standards, and other technical initiatives.
Other specific responsibilities include: initiating feasibility studies and undertaking preliminary field investigations and condition assessments; leading stakeholder meetings and public consultation sessions; identifying, preparing, managing and being accountable for project scope, schedule, resources, and budget; and writing and presenting project business cases and other project governance documents. You will develop procurement documents and manage the tendering process. You will also be required to coach project coordinators, ensuring a high degree of professionalism and organization throughout the department.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Building Technology, or related field
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive project management experience managing capital construction projects
- Membership or eligibility to be registered, as a Professional Engineer with EGBC or a Technologist with ASTTBC or equivalent
- An equivalent combination or education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Experience with an Owner’s organization is considered an asset
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is considered an asset
Knowledge and Competencies:
- Comprehensive knowledge of project management principles and methodologies
- Great judgement and decision making skills, manage stress well through effective time management, and self-motivated
- Systematic thinker with the ability to provide effective solutions to complex problems
- Positive attitude and excellent interpersonal and communication skills which allow you to maintain effective working relationships
- Progressive experience in planning, design, procurement, and construction
- Excellent knowledge of construction contract law, CCDC contracts, and the preparation, review, and interpretation of technical design documentation, drawings, and specifications
- Fundamental knowledge and understanding of current standards, codes, bylaws and regulations, zoning and permit requirements, and other regulatory requirements
- Experience managing teams and diverse stakeholder groups including First Nations
- Experience in public and internal stakeholder consultation and conflict resolution with the ability to reconcile differing perspectives, develop consensus, and secure cooperation and support from both stakeholders and team members
- Experience developing and reporting on project and programs, writing and preparing business cases for various projects and initiatives, tracking budget, and financial reporting.

Island Class Vessel
We are currently seeking applications from individuals interested in a Shipboard Management Position as Chief Engineers. You can be based in the Comox Valley, or a nearby community and travel to work to the following Northern Gulf Islands.
Quadra – Campbell River
-4 days on 4 days off
-12 hr shifts

Texada – Sunshine Coast
-7 days on 7 days off
-10hr shifts
-Live on the Sunshine Coast or Lower Mainland
Alert Bay – North Island
-7 days on 7 days off
-10hr shifts

The successful applicant is a passionate, innovative engineer who brings the technical, interpersonal, developmental, administrative and leadership skills as well as the experience required for safe and efficient management and operation of the ship’s machinery and equipment. You are committed to the Company’s vision and values including safety, exceeding customer expectations and performance efficiency. Your experience includes proficiency in marine engineering with relevant operating systems and a demonstrated knowledge in safe work practices, leadership & development of employees and an understanding of financial and budget processes.
Interested employees holding a Transport Canada 3rd Class Motor Certificate will be considered for this opportunity based on meeting the qualifications, experience and suitability requirements determined by the Company.
