The Opportunity
As Manager, Warehouse, you will lead the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of BC Ferries' warehouse facilities in Nanaimo. Responsible for warehousing, distribution, inventory management, procurement support, and logistics activities, you will ensure products are received, stored, and delivered to meet the needs of our vessels and business operations. This role provides an exciting opportunity to lead a unionized workforce, champion safety and compliance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that support service reliability and operational performance.
The Role
In this key leadership role, you will report to the Senior Manager Food and Retails Programs and perform the following duties:
- Provides operational leadership and oversight for warehousing, distribution, inventory control, and logistics functions, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations
- Leads and develops warehouse employees through recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, coaching, performance management, and employee engagement initiatives
- Oversees inventory receiving, storage, replenishment, distribution, and delivery activities to ensure inventory accuracy, product availability, and service standards are achieved
- Manages vendor relationships, contracts, product costing, procurement activities, and supplier performance to ensure value, quality, and contractual compliance
- Develops, implements, and maintains operational policies, procedures, and controls that support regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, operational effectiveness, and continuous improvement
- Ensures compliance with corporate policies and applicable legislation and regulations, including WorkSafeBC, FoodSafe, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Health Canada, and ISM requirements
- Leads workplace health and safety programs, including hazard identification, risk assessment, incident management, corrective actions, and safety culture initiatives
- Oversees the maintenance and operational readiness of warehouse facilities, equipment, and infrastructure
- Monitors key performance indicators, including inventory accuracy, fill rates, inventory turnover, productivity, absenteeism, waste, and shrinkage, implementing corrective actions as required
- Develops and manages operating and labour budgets, including forecasting, variance analysis, financial reporting, and cost-control initiatives
- Collaborates with supply chain, operations, and other business stakeholders to optimize distribution performance and supports interconnected organizational processes
What you bring to the team
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or supply chain management designation (preferred) or associate degree in combination with additional experience and knowledge
- Specific certifications include food safe certification, class 5 drivers’ license and forklift operator certificate and intermediate level dangerous goods within 60 days
Work Experience Requirements:
- 5 years' experience working in a food and retail warehouse
- 5 years' experience working with electronic inventory management systems
- 3 years' experience managing employees in a unionized environment
Competency Requirements:
- High level of expertise in warehousing, procurement and logistics with a working understanding of adjacent disciplines
- Solves mid-level problems through a structured, systematic approach with advanced communication skills to lead and influence a team
- Assesses situations by drawing on experience and a broad range of information sources

Additional information
The target salary range: $98,500-$123,100 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity.
