We're looking for a Senior Business Analyst, Food & Retail Programs to help drive the financial performance, strategic planning, and business insights that support one of BC Ferries' most customer-facing lines of business. In this role, you'll provide the financial insight and business analysis that help drive the success of our food, retail, and ancillary revenue programs. As a trusted advisor to leaders across the business, you'll transform financial and operational data into meaningful insights, identify opportunities and risks, and contribute to strategic initiatives that enhance customer experience while delivering strong business results.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply your analytical expertise in a complex, dynamic organization while contributing to the essential service that connects coastal communities across British Columbia.

The Role

Reporting to the Business Controller, Food and Retail Programs, your key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Providing weekly, monthly, and ad hoc financial and ancillary revenue reporting, while analyzing performance, trends, risks, opportunities, and variances to support operational and business decision-making;
  • Partnering with management and budget holders to develop budgets, forecasts, performance metrics, and action plans, while analyzing actual, planned, and historical results to identify risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement;
  • Promoting financial awareness and accountability across the department by providing financial systems support, guidance, training, and contributing to financial controls and processes that support effective decision-making;
  • Conducting financial research, profitability analysis, and business evaluations to identify growth opportunities, assess initiatives, and support departmental objectives;
  • Assisting in the development of business cases, information system implementations, and cost-benefit analyses for strategic business initiatives, including preparing financial submissions for the Board and the BC Ferries Commissioner;
  • Ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of financial information while conducting financial analysis, profitability assessments, and research to evaluate business initiatives, benchmark performance, identify growth opportunities, and support informed business planning and decision-making.

What you bring to the team

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, or a related discipline, along with a CPA professional accounting designation
  • 4–6 years of experience in a business analysis, financial analysis, or related analytical role, including 1–3 years of experience preparing budgets, forecasts, financial models, and variance analysis
  • Experience working with large ERP systems and leveraging financial and reporting tools to support analysis and decision-making within a complex organization
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and report-writing skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to diverse audiences and build effective working relationships across departments
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Advanced Excel skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and the ability to translate complex data into meaningful insights, recommendations, and opportunities for business improvement
  • A collaborative and adaptable approach, with the initiative to work independently, build strong relationships, and contribute positively to a team-oriented environment
