The Opportunity

At BC Ferries, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We're looking for an Advisor, People Experience who is passionate about supporting employees and leaders, building strong workplace relationships, and creating positive employee experiences across the organization.

 

In this dynamic and highly collaborative role, you'll partner with managers, supervisors, employees, and union representatives to provide trusted HR advice and support on a broad range of employee relations matters. From coaching leaders through performance and attendance management to helping resolve workplace concerns and supporting accommodations and return-to-work programs, you'll play a key role in fostering an engaged, respectful, and high-performing workplace.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Manager, People Experience, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Providing expert advice, guidance, and coaching to managers and supervisors on employee performance management, training and development plans, disciplinary procedures, and the investigation and resolution of workplace issues, including conducting fact-finding meetings as required;
  • Serving as the first point of contact for managers, supervisors, and employees by providing guidance on HR policies, programs, procedures, and the interpretation and application of collective agreements;
  • Supporting managers and supervisors with attendance management, illness and injury matters, workplace accommodations, and the implementation of return-to-work procedures and strategies;
  • Exercising sound judgment and discretion when handling complex and highly sensitive matters, escalating issues to the Manager, Corporate People Experience as required;
  • Maintaining, administering, and monitoring compliance with the annual performance evaluation program, including providing training and support to leaders;
  • Fostering and maintaining professional, respectful, and collaborative relationships with union partners;
  • Maintaining proficiency in the use and application of HRIS and related systems;
  • Developing and implementing enhancements to HR policies, programs, and practices;
  • Participating as a local representative on committees and working groups, as assigned; and
  • Carrying out employee relations and human resources projects and initiatives, as assigned.

What you bring to the team

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • CPHR designation (or progress toward designation) is an asset
  • At least 2 years of Human Resources experience, preferably in a high volume, fast-paced and unionized environment
  • Experience supporting employee relations, performance management, attendance management, and workplace accommodations
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation, HR best practices, and collective agreements
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive matters with professionalism and confidentiality
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Experience working with HR systems and Microsoft Office applications

Additional information

The target salary range is $83,500 - $104,300 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience, and internal equity.
