Materials Coordinator

Nanaimo 

 

The Opportunity 

We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced and qualified Materials Coordinator. This position is responsible for purchasing a variety of goods and services within established limits and authority; ships; receives and records the movement of corporate goods and maintains inventories.  

 

The Role 

As a Material Coordinator, you directly report to the Supply Chain Manager performing the following duties:  

  • Performing an inventory control function, utilizing a computerized inventory system, by monitoring, recording and maintaining inventory levels and resolving discrepancies; maintaining stock rotation; ensuring optimum usage of warehouse space; maintaining parts catalogues and technical reference manuals; and performing housekeeping duties 
  • Shipping, receiving and recording the movement of goods by organizing, consolidating and co-ordinating transportation inbound and outbound; loading and unloading trucks; operating a range of motorized equipment for movement and storage of goods; picking, packing and marking orders as required; and maintaining record-keeping systems as appropriate 
  • Processing purchasing transactions by reviewing, checking and analyzing requisitions; assisting requisitioners to develop product and service specifications; checking current inventories for availability and issuing goods where appropriate; and initiating orders within corporate contracts 
  • Expediting the purchasing process; determining contract terms and conditions, inviting tenders; using standard forms, writing contract agreements within established limits and authority; and awarding and/or recommending awards depending on complexity of contract 
  • Monitoring vendor performance; receiving, inspecting and verifying shipments; and reconciling discrepancies with vendors 
  • Operating tool cribs by recording issues and returns and maintaining tools and equipment 
  • Providing orientation, guidance, and familiarization to new and existing team members 
  • Performing additional duties including communicating Corporate Purchasing and Inventory policies and procedures to vendors and internal clients for compliance purposes; and co-ordinating and/or producing reports 

 

What you bring to the team 

Competency Requirements:  

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing, including technical information, in a manner that is complete, clear and concise 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of individuals to achieve corporate goals 
  • Ability to effectively organize and manage one’s own workload independently, taking into consideration multiple tasks, change in priorities, deadlines and available resources to ensure efficient completion of tasks 
  • Ability to recognize sensitive information and maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality using fair business practices 
  • Ability to assess situations, assimilate information from a variety of sources, analyze potential problems and solutions making independent decisions and take appropriate actions 
  • Ability to identify and recommend changes to policies, procedures and systems to meet corporate and customer needs 
  • Ability to enter, manipulate and retrieve computer data in a quick and accurate manner using current standard BCF Oracle and Maximo software 
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel at the intermediate level 
  • Working knowledge of inventory management, warehouse practices and buying principles 
  • Working knowledge of relevant trade and engineering materials and equipment 
  • Strong team orientation 
  • Ability to work well under pressure 

 

Education Requirements:  

  • BC or inter-provincial Trades Qualification in industrial/automotive warehousing; or Certificate in purchasing plus considerable experience in an industrial environment; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience 
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
