The Opportunity

We are in search of a detailed and results-oriented Business Intelligence (BI) professional to join our Information Technology team. As the Senior BI Developer, you are responsible for the overall maintenance, development and support of the IBM Cognos Analytics and IBM DataStage ETL applications. Your role has responsibility for continuous improvement, quality assurance, effective change management, and project delivery excellence.

The Role

Reporting to the Team Lead, Business Intelligence, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

• Troubleshooting and diagnosing complex IBM Cognos Analytics, IBM DataStage ETL and Power BI Server application issues;
• Ensuring all issues are tracked and reported in a timely manner;
• Overseeing the functional completeness of applications;
• Working with all levels of end users to understand business requirements and developing detailed design specifications;
• Conducting business analysis and design work required for business processes, user documentation, and training for both new and existing systems;
• Developing functional designs and business processes for complex problems; designing and executing functional tests; coordinating testing cycles;
• Testing systems for patches, upgrades, and interface compatibility with other systems; developing comprehensive test scripts and enhancing existing scripts;
• Ensuring quality deliverables meet budget and milestone expectations, and that project objectives are effectively achieved;
• Working closely with subject matter experts in one or more business areas, applying this knowledge through participation in project teams;
• Providing consultation to project stakeholders on design alternatives;
• Investigating data through system audits to ensure accurate information is captured;
• Ensuring system integrity and the security of confidential HR, Finance, Safety, and business data are maintained at all times;
• Developing and maintaining documentation;
• Providing leadership, guidance, and mentorship to team members, and facilitating team collaboration;
• Working closely with application vendors;
• Providing orientation, guidance, and informal training to employees;
• Performing other related duties as assigned from time to time;

What you bring to the team

• Diploma or Degree in Computer Science or an IT-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
• Minimum 5 years' senior-level experience with IBM Cognos Analytics tools, including Report Studio report design and development, Framework Manager modelling, and Transformer cube design and development
• Knowledge and experience with IBM DataStage, Microsoft Power BI Desktop, on-prem Power BI Server would be an asset
• Significant experience in configuring, testing, troubleshooting and end-user support for BI applications
• Experience developing business process documentation, test plans and technical requirements
• Experience with Data Warehousing, especially Oracle Data Warehousing, would be an asset
• High level of self motivation and initiative
• Ability to work well under pressure
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships

Additional information 

The salary for this bargaining unit position is $8,377 per month.
