Job Description

SENIOR FINANCIAL ANALYST, FP&A (Capital)

The Opportunity

At BC Ferries, we connect communities and play a vital role in the lives of British Columbians. Behind every sailing is a team of professionals who ensure the organization remains financially strong, operationally efficient, and ready for the future.

We are currently seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join our Financial Planning & Analysis (Capital) team, which manages BC Ferries’ 12-year capital plan, annual budget, and provides corporate-wide financial analysis and decision support.

As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will drive financial insight and decision support across capital and major operating investments. Partnering closely with project management teams and senior leaders, you will help shape business cases, strengthen capital portfolio planning, and deliver clear, accurate reporting on budgets, forecasts, variances, and performance metrics – enabling smarter, value-driven decisions across the organization.

The Role

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis (Capital), you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Support the development and ongoing maintenance of the multi‑year capital plan
  • Partner with project teams in development of business cases, funding requests, and amendments by providing financial challenge and advice
  • Prepare financial analysis for project business cases and other investment decisions, including lifecycle costing, cash flow forecasting, and return metrics (e.g., NPV, IRR, affordability)
  • Act as a finance partner to project management offices and cross-departmental stakeholders
  • Monitor capital program budgets and forecasts, identify variances and emerging risks
  • Deliver financial reporting and analysis at the project and program levels, translating data into actionable insights

What you bring to the team

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field
  • Professional accounting designation or related advanced degree is preferred
  • 4+ years in a relevant finance role. Practical experience in a FP&A role with capital investment decision making is an asset.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and / or FP&A tools (e.g., Oracle, Adaptive, Cognos, Power BI, or similar)

Skills and Traits

  • Solid understanding of capital investment evaluation, including lifecycle costing
  • Strong knowledge of forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis, ideally with a capital-intensive environment
  • Working knowledge of project accounting principles and financial controls
  • Advanced financial modeling skills, with proficiency in Excel
  • Ability to analyze complex financial and non‑financial information and synthesize it into clear, decision‑ready insights
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, articulating ideas clearly and effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to show leadership and influence business decisions as a trusted advisor
  • Confidence operating with a high degree of autonomy while aligning work to broader team objectives
  • Detail‑oriented, intellectually curious, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
