SENIOR BUSINESS INVESTMENTS ADVISOR

Strategy & Planning 

Victoria or Vancouver Lower Mainland (hybrid)

You are the trusted internal consultant and champion of the framework that will determine where our capital goes for years to come.

You will be bridge between operations and finance, proactively consulting operational leaders in translating critical operational KPIs to quantifiable financial impact. If you are passionate about dismantling complex problems, building robust business cases, and directly influencing the strategic direction of one of British Columbia’s most iconic organizations, this is your seat at the table.

The Role

Reporting to the Manager, Strategy & Business Planning, you will have the following areas of focus:

  • Champion the Investment Prioritization Framework: Lead the enterprise-wide implementation of the framework, ensuring a standardized, data-driven definition of strategic and economic contributions across all departments
  • Drive Strategic Business Cases: Partner with senior leaders across BC Ferries to transform operational ideas into "board-ready" investment summary by assigning strategic value and quantifying OPEX/CAPEX requirements as well as bottom-line benefits
  • Bridge the Finance Gap: Act as the primary strategic envoy to Corporate Finance, strengthening annual financial planning and capital management through high-integrity business inputs
  • Build the "Investment Playbook": Develop and maintain the enterprise reference standards for unit costs and margins, enabling teams to rapidly iterate and validate new proposals

 

What you bring to the team

Experience

  • 5+ years in a Strategy or Finance/Accounting department within a complex, multi-functional organization
  • 5+ years of developing business cases, identifying cost/revenue drivers and translating operational KPIs into financial models
  • Deep experience in MS Excel, familiarity with finance systems and tools
  • Previous experience in management consulting or internal advisory roles is an asset

 

Traits

  • Extremely comfortable with financials, including partnering closely with corporate finance functions
  • Proven ability to rapidly build trust and high-impact relationships with both executive leadership and operational teams
  • A track record of successfully challenging the status quo and influencing senior-level decision-making
  • Ability to operate independently, given requirements and functional objectives. Able to conceive and propose solutions then work directly or through stakeholders to implement
  • Deep curiosity and ability to synthesize competing departmental interests into a unified enterprise strategy

 

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, or Finance
  • Possession of a CPA or CFA certification is considered a significant asset

Additional information

The target salary range: $105,200 - $131,500 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity.
