MANAGER, OPERATIONAL TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT

Information Technology

Victoria or Vancouver Lower Mainland

BC Ferries is embarking on a bold, multi-year transformation of our technology and the way we work. This evolution is focused on strengthening the experience for both our customers and employees, while ensuring we continue to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable service—now and into the future.

As our vessels and terminals become increasingly connected, and we adopt modern platforms powered by advanced analytics and artificial intelligence, we’re looking for forward-thinking leaders who are excited by what’s possible. Leaders who not only embrace innovation, but who also know how to build, inspire, and empower teams to turn vision into reality.

If you thrive in complex, large-scale environments, enjoy driving enterprise-wide transformation, and are comfortable operating at the intersection of business strategy and technology delivery, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. Join us and play a meaningful role in shaping the future of coastal transportation—where the challenge is significant and the impact is lasting.

The Opportunity

At BC Ferries, we connect communities across the coast, supported by a wide range of technology across our vessels and terminals. We’re looking for a Manager, Operational Technology (OT) Support to oversee the day-to-day support of OT systems across our fleet, terminals, and related infrastructure.

This role works closely with both IT teams and operational stakeholders to ensure OT systems are supported in a consistent and reliable way. As Manager, OT Support, you will help bring structured support practices to systems that have traditionally been managed within engineering and refit environments, aligning them with established IT service management approaches.

Leading a multidisciplinary team, you’ll coordinate activities such as incident response, system onboarding, and lifecycle support, working alongside cybersecurity, engineering, and terminal operations teams. This role is well suited to someone with a strong background in IT operations who is comfortable working in a hands-on, collaborative environment supporting critical systems.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, Technology Services, this role is integral to the achievement of company objectives, and you contribute value through key areas of oversight such as:

  • Leading onboarding of new and legacy OT systems across vessels and terminals;
  • Assessing OT system risk, connectivity requirements, and determining appropriate IT/OT network integration approaches;
  • Ensuring complete as-built documentation, configuration records, and test environment validation;
  • Coordinating OT data-transfer needs and integration with enterprise data platforms and teams;
  • Overseeing OT incident response, triage, escalation, and communication in alignment with enterprise IT practices;
  • Managing lifecycle support, including patching, firmware updates, monitoring, and obsolescence planning;
  • Maintaining system health through continuous monitoring, alerting, and routine maintenance standards;
  • Maintaining OT system inventory, RACI assignments, and system ownership models;
  • Establishing and enforcing OT service delivery processes (incident, change, configuration, and asset management);
  • Managing OT vendor relationships, contracts, SLAs, and compliance obligations;
  • Contributing OT requirements to vessel newbuilds, refits, terminal upgrades, and other capital projects;
  • Maintaining OT documentation, runbooks, and knowledge repositories;
  • Supporting business-user training, system orientation, and operational readiness in collaboration with OT system business owners;
  • Ensuring OT support processes mitigate succession and knowledge-retention risks;
  • Remaining informed of maritime industry innovations and emerging OT technologies to support modernization, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of systems;
  • Monitoring emerging OT regulations, class rules, and cyber-risk trends;
  • Evaluating new technologies (IoT, automation, digital twins) for future OT readiness;
  • Leading, coaching, and developing the OT Support team while ensuring adequate operational coverage;
  • Establishing KPIs and performance metrics for OT service delivery;
  • Leading by example in safety, service quality, and continuous improvement;

What you bring to the team

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in hands-on corporate IT implementation and support, in a complex IT environment with multiple technologies, distributed computing, and geographically distributed end-user community (Networks, IT Security, Infrastructure; more broadly IT Operations, IT Project Management) is required
  • 3+ years of progressive leadership/management experience is required
  • 1+ years of experience onboarding and supporting OT systems in the following or similar industries is an asset: maritime, mining, energy, aviation is preferred
