Job Description

MANAGER, SUPPLY CHAIN CENTRAL OPERATIONS
Delta Warehouse

The Opportunity

Central to BC Ferries’ operational reliability, safety performance, and service delivery, the Manager, Supply Chain Central Operations leads the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of the Central Delta warehouse, centralized shipping & receiving, and contracted third‑party storage sites. Operating across three shifts in a complex, unionized environment, you’ll ensure materials, parts, and equipment are stored, handled, issued, and transported in line with policy, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

You will drive productivity, standardization, and continuous improvement while balancing competing priorities - service urgency, safety, labour constraints, and resource availability. Through clear communication and strong operational leadership, you’ll align supervisors, unionized teams, and cross‑functional partners to deliver responsive, high‑quality service that directly supports vessel operations, terminal maintenance, refits, and overall operational continuity.

If you thrive in a multi‑shift setting, lead through collaboration and accountability, and enjoy turning operational complexity into consistent results, this role offers a significant opportunity to influence performance at scale.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Supply Chain Operations, you contribute to enterprise success through the following key responsibilities:

  • Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the Central Delta warehouse, central shipping & receiving, and contracted third‑party storage sites.
  • Provide leadership across operational shifts (Delta Warehouse Shift A, Delta Warehouse Shift B, and Central Shipping & Receiving) to ensure coverage, productivity, and operational continuity.
  • Lead daily shift meetings with supervisors to review priorities, address issues, and align on safety, service, and performance objectives.
  • Manage, coach, and develop supervisors and operational teams (including 2 Warehouse Shift Supervisors and the Shipping & Receiving Supervisor), fostering engagement, capability, and accountability.
  • Oversee Central Shipping & Receiving activities, including internal material movements between supply chain sites, vendor pickups/returns, refit deliveries, and terminal/shipyard support.
  • Provide functional leadership to Stores Drivers supporting internal logistics, vendor movements, refits, and inter‑site transfers.
  • Coordinate and support seasonal refit staging, tracing, and delivery with the Refit Logistics Coordinator.
  • Ensure all operations meet or exceed occupational health & safety regulations, environmental requirements, and organizational safety programs.
  • Maintain clean, organized, secure facilities, including compliance with storage, handling, and hazardous materials requirements.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance and repairs for warehouse equipment, vehicles, and infrastructure.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, throughput, and service reliability.
  • Track and analyze key operational performance metrics; lead performance improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with Inventory Control, Logistics & Distribution, and Purchasing to integrate processes and improve end‑to‑end service delivery.
  • Provide responsive, professional service to internal departments, ensuring materials and parts are available and delivered as required.
  • Communicate and negotiate with vendors, carriers, and third‑party storage providers to coordinate logistics and ensure compliance with safety and operational requirements.
  • Support resolution of escalated operational, staffing, safety, or service issues impacting Central Supply Chain Operations.
  • Participate in emergency response, business continuity, and operational resilience planning related to central warehouse and logistics operations.
  • Support strategic initiatives, operational projects, and continuous improvement efforts as directed by senior leadership.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in warehouse or distribution operations, including leadership of operational teams.
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field will be considered an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of warehouse operations, materials handling, logistics, and occupational health & safety in a complex operational environment.
  • Proven experience leading multi‑shift, unionized teams, including performance management, coaching, workforce planning, scheduling, coverage, and vacation relief.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing demands, make sound operational decisions, and resolve issues in real time.
  • Track record of driving measurable performance improvements, standardization, and continuous improvement (Lean/continuous improvement experience highly valued).
  • Practical knowledge of warehouse systems and logistics processes (e.g., WMS/ERP/TMS) and the ability to use data and KPIs to monitor and improve performance.
  • Strong communication and influence skills with internal teams (inventory, logistics, purchasing, operations, senior leadership) and external partners (vendors, carriers, third‑party storage).
  • Well‑developed problem‑solving, judgement, and decision‑making skills, with the ability to adapt as operational needs and refit schedules evolve.
  • Formal education and/or professional development in supply chain, leadership, business, or continuous improvement is highly valued.
