The Opportunity

In order to address the challenges brought on by constrained system capacity, aging major assets, and environmental sustainability, BC Ferries has recently launched a new Fleet Renewal organization.  This team will deliver a large number of new major and minor vessels to the fleet in the near term, as well as significant builds and upgrades to shore-based infrastructure and facilities.  These projects together form the largest capital investment in the company’s history.

 

The Asset Management & Reliability Lead provides guidance, and oversight to ensure asset management and reliability engineering principles are integrated into new vessel and terminal infrastructure projects. The role embeds lifecycle thinking and risk-based decision-making into design and delivery, providing assurance that assets will achieve required performance, safety, availability, and long-term value. Working across project, engineering, and operational teams, the role establishes expectations, reviews deliverables, and supports effective transition of assets into service.

 

 

The Role

Reporting to the Director, Technical & Design, this role is integral to the achievement of company objectives, and you contribute value through key areas of oversight such as:

  • Providing technical expertise to ensure asset management and reliability engineering principles are embedded in new vessel and terminal infrastructure projects from concept through entry into service;
  • Establishing and maintaining asset management and reliability requirements aligned with organizational standards and ISO 55001 principles;
  • Ensuring lifecycle thinking is applied in design decisions, including operability, maintainability, spares strategy, obsolescence, and long-term supportability;
  • Influencing and informing risk-based decision-making, balancing safety, performance, cost, and asset lifecycle value in collaboration with engineering, operations, and project stakeholders;
  • Supporting the development and review of maintenance strategies aligned with asset criticality and operational context;
  • Acting as a key interface between design teams, project delivery, and operational stakeholders to support effective asset handover and operational readiness;

 

 What you bring to the team

  • Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science degree in a related discipline. Diploma of Engineering Technology or a related discipline may be considered
  • 4+ years experience applying reliability engineering principles in an industrial setting, including reliability analysis, maintenance strategy development
  • 4+ years experience in asset management in an industrial or infrastructure setting, including planning, operation, maintenance, and renewal decision-making
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or Engineer-in-training (EIT) status is preferred
  • Asset Management Professional (CAMP) and/or Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) is preferred
  • Combination of relevant experience and education may be considered

Additional Information

The target salary range: $105,200 – $131,500 per annum.  The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge and experience, and on internal equity.
