ASSISTANT REGIONAL MANAGER (TECHNICAL LEAD), TERMINAL MAINTENANCE

The Opportunity
We are searching for an Assistant Regional Manager to join our Terminal Maintenance team. As a key member of Terminal Maintenance team, you assist the Regional Manager in providing leadership to the maintenance region to ensure the safe, timely and efficient delivery of the maintenance program and projects for terminal infrastructure. As the technical lead and work delivery specialist, this position requires the individual to lead the planning, prioritization and execution of all maintenance activities effectively, while understanding the technical requirements for completing work, understanding safe work practices, as well as leading a diverse team of planners, supervisors and trades in a unionized environment.
This position includes, but is not limited to, management of work in the following fields: marine structures, mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, civil infrastructure, buildings and building systems, water distribution and sewage plant systems. This position requires responding periodically to after-hours calls or call outs to respond to emergent issues.
The Role
Reporting to the Regional Manager, Terminal Maintenance, you add value to the team in the following categories:
- Assisting with developing, planning, prioritizing, implementing and managing a comprehensive and effective preventative and reliability centered maintenance program
- Managing maintenance projects through successful planning, execution and delivery
- Working with consultants to develop technical solutions to issues and presenting those solutions
- Responding to emergencies
- Assisting with hiring qualified trades people and support staff with the required skills
- Assisting in developing and implementing training programs
- Providing technical expertise, leadership, mentorship, and guidance
- Assigning, tracking, and monitoring work of regional staff with a focus on prioritization, efficiency, and quality
- Assisting with taking disciplinary action according to provisions of the collective agreement
- Maintaining the asset database for maintenance planning and record keeping of maintenance activity
- Utilizing CMMS software for monitoring activity and providing progress reports
- Developing standards, job plans and process improvements
- Ensuring maintenance routines and job plans are thorough and in alignment with objectives and standards
- Identifying opportunities for continual improvement
- Working within company finance and supply chain policies
- Developing operational project request-for-proposals, evaluating bids and proposals, and working with procurement to negotiate and establish contracts for work from contractors
- Ensuring contractors operate within BCF safety standards
- Monitoring and evaluating contract work and ensuring costs are according to contractual terms
- Ensuring Safe Operations of Maintenance on BCF property by conducting risk assessments, assisting with incident reviews, coordinating with WorkSafeBC, and ensuring compliance (environmental, safety, and training qualifications)
- Performs other duties as required at the discretion of the Manager or Director, which may require short term redistribution to other POAs
What you bring to the team
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- Completion of a four-year undergraduate degree in Engineering, or a two-year technology diploma or Red Seal trade certification, with a minimum of five years’ experience in planning/scheduling, supervision, and project management
- Registration with EGBC and a Project Management or Maintenance Management Professional Certificate considered an asset
- Minimum of 5 years total experience in a maintenance or a related technical field with at least 2 years of leadership and project management or project coordination experience
Competency Requirements:
- Strong organizational, time management, maintenance management and project management skills
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with consultants and contractors
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership and mentoring skills– necessary for leading and motivating diverse workforce in a union environment
- Ability to work with computer software (CMMS unspecified but Maximo preferred, MS Office Excel, MS Word and Outlook)
- Ability to manage project budgets

Additional information
The target salary range: $98,500-$123,100 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity.
