The Opportunity
We are looking for a Crewing Officer to lead long and short-term planning efforts to ensure Scheduling Services meets both operational requirements and company objectives. As a Crewing Officer, you are comfortable with planning and scheduling staff, reviewing staff training needs, and providing leadership. You can optimize budgets and labour resource usage, forecast staffing needs, analyze service plans, and design operational models.
The Role
- Coordinating working of the planning and scheduling staff by reviewing and implementing standards and priorities to ensure that the objectives of the team and our internal customers are met
- Providing leadership and accountability to foster team success, reviewing and correcting process errors to ensure corrective measures are put in place and communicated to entire staff
- Optimizing budget and labour resource usage by analysing service plans, designing, conducting and evaluating operational model; conceptualizing and defining service and staffing problems and developing staffing plans to improve efficiencies, time, labour and other costs
- Forecasting staffing requirements, planning and evaluating employees’ schedules, monitoring and adjusting to achieve improved operating efficiencies and customer service improvements
- Working with People Experience to identify training/re-training – recertification needs, schedule, and anticipating when/where classification shortfalls may occur for efficient deployment of resources
- Reviewing trends, historical data and known/planned operational needs to provide recommendations to People Experience and Operational Managers for timely recruitment activities to ensure that resource/skills requirements are met, when needed
- Working with People Experience on employee movements in/out of job postings, term certains, relocation, and promotion/demotion timing
- Ensuring regulatory, operational and collective agreement compliance and delivering a high level of customer service to employees, line manager and others
What you bring to the team
- Post-Secondary education in a related field or suitable combination of education and experience
- 5-7 years’ office experience preferably in a complex unionized environment
- 5 years’ experience supervising, training, and developing staff
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office programs – emphasis on use of Excel
- Experience with staff scheduling systems is an asset
- Training in BC Ferries systems including C365, Oracle HR, and Cognos reporting is an asset

Additional information
The target salary range: $77,300 - $96,600 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
