TEAM LEAD, PAYROLL 

Victoria 

 

The Opportunity  

We are looking for a proactive and knowledgeable Team Lead, Payroll to join our team. In this role, you will oversee the coordination of our semi-monthly payroll processes and ensure that all payroll activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with established policies. 

 

As the Team Lead, Payroll, you will provide daily support and guidance to Pay Analysts and Senior Pay Analysts, helping them navigate complex pay issues and maintain a high standard of service. You will take the lead in resolving payroll inquiries, ensuring employees receive timely and accurate responses, and you will deliver ongoing training to support the development of the payroll team. 

 

This position plays an important role in documenting and maintaining payroll procedures, identifying process improvements, and supporting new business initiatives with your subject matter expertise. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure payroll operations run smoothly and effectively. In addition, you will also provide vacation coverage for the Assistant Manager, Payroll, as well as the Pension and Benefits Advisor.

The Role  

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:  

  • Coordinating the execution of the semi-monthly payroll process; 
  • Providing daily guidance and support to Pay Analysts and Senior Pay Analysts; 
  • Coordinating the resolution of payroll enquires from employees; 
  • Providing subject matter expertise on payroll processes, policies and procedures to internal and external clients; 
  • Ensuring staff have appropriate training and that procedures are documented and maintained; 
  • Participating in the development and implementation of projects and programs to assist in the accomplishment of corporate objectives; 
  • Reviewing existing business processes and makes recommendations with a view to streamlining processes and maximizing productivity; 
  • Identifying future business process requirements for new initiatives and develops strategies to meet those requirements; 

 

What you bring to the team 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related discipline 
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation from the National Payroll Institute upon hire. PLP or CPM is preferred 
  • 4–6 years of payroll experience in a complex, computerized business environment. 
  • 1–3 years of experience training and supervising payroll staff 
  • Experience working with and interpreting complex collective agreements

Additional information  

The target salary range is $77,300 - $96,600 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience, and internal equity.
