Job Description

MANAGER, TERMINAL

Swartz Bay and Southern Gulf Islands

 

The opportunity

We are looking for a passionate, dynamic leader to oversee the day-to-day operation and administration of our Swartz Bay terminal. In this role you will oversee all aspects of the terminal and ticketing operations- including passenger and vehicle processing, loading operations and the safe use of terminal equipment and infrastructure. You will lead a team of supervisors and frontline employees to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance and outstanding customer experience.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Regional Manager of Swartz Bay and Southern Islands, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

 

Operational leadership:

  • Providing direct oversight of terminal operations, ensuring the safe and timely movement of passengers and vehicles.
  • Oversee ticketing, foot passenger processing, vehicle loading and ramp operations
  • Ensure all terminal equipment and systems are operated and maintained in accordance with safety regulations, procedures and terminal standards.
  • Monitor day-today service delivery to ensure compliance with schedules, safety procedures and operational policies. 

People Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, mentor and support Supervisors and frontline employees to build an engaged, empowered and high performing workforce.
  • Provide guidance and direction on performance management, attendance, corrective actions and adherence to corporate and safety standards.
  • Supporting training, onboarding, and continuous development of staff.
  • Foster a respectful and inclusive workplace culture that values safety, collaboration, and customer service.

 Stakeholder & Union Relations

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with employees, union representatives’ community members and internal business partners.
  • Collaborate constructively with union leadership while upholding BC Ferries Policies, collective agreement provisions and organizational expectations.
  • Represent the terminal and company in community interactions, meetings and site visits.

 Customer Experience

  • Champion a customer-first approach, ensuring terminals are clean, well-maintained and welcoming.
  • Respond to customer concerns or incidents with professionalism and service-oriented solutions.
  • Improve the customer journey thought continues proves improvement and frontline empowerment.

 Strategic & Fiscal Management

  • Contribute to corporate priorities, operational strategies and continuous improvements initiatives.
  • Manage terminal budgets, staffing resources and overtime in alignment with fiscal targets .
  • Track and meet key performance indicators (KIPs) related to safety, service reliability, productivity , customer feedback and cost control.
  • Identify operational efficiencies and implement best practices within the terminal environment.

What you bring to the team

You have a Post-Secondary diploma in business administration (or related field) or a suitable combination of education and experience. You have a minimum of three years’ experience managing a passenger transportation terminal, preferably marine transport and demonstrated experience in implementing strategic initiative within a diverse workforce unionized and non-unionized work force. Additionally, you have experience in creating and managing large operating and capital budgets

Additional information

The target salary range: $98,500 - $123,100 per annum.  The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
