PROJECT COORDINATOR, FLEET RENEWAL INFRASTRUCTURE  

Victoria 
 

The Opportunity 
In order to address the challenges brought on by constrained system capacity, aging major assets, and environmental sustainability, BC Ferries is launching a new Fleet Renewal program that will see a large number of new major and minor vessels introduced to the fleet in the near term as well as significant builds and upgrades to shore-based infrastructure and facilities. BCFerries also intends to undertake an ambitious program of system electrification, enabling large parts of our ferry system to operate on a cleaner and more sustainable energy source. These projects together form the largest capital investment in the company’s history.   

 

The Project Coordinator performs a comprehensive range of project, administrative, and technical coordination activities in support of civil, marine, electrical, and building infrastructure projects. While assisting with project planning, scheduling, and budgeting, the role organizes inspections and assessments, supports design development and the procurement of services and goods, prepares tenders and contracts, and performs site supervision and construction management for several concurrent civil, building, electrical, and marine capital projects.  The Project Coordinator provides professional support to project managers and the department leadership, and with guidance from a project manager, takes responsibility to independently manage the planning and execution of smaller and less complex projects.  

The projects supported by the Project Coordinator are in active stages of construction, and the Project Coordinator will take a leading role in onsite construction and operational support, as well as associated asset management tasks to prepare for the ongoing operation and maintenance of the new terminal assets.  

 

The Role 

Reporting directly to the Program Manager, Fleet Renewal Infrastructure and supporting Project Managers, this role is integral to the achievement of company objectives and contributes value through key areas of oversight such as:  

  • Planning and design support - developing scope, schedule, budgets, phasing plans, project management plans, project governance documents, and stakeholder and First Nation engagement plans. 
  • Procurement activities - securing services and materials, tender and contract preparation, contractor pre-qualification, bid assessments. 
  • Construction activities - site supervision, taking minutes at site meetings, conducting site orientations, managing contract changes, inspecting work, reviewing hand over documents. 
  • Technical activities include drawing and report reviews, site investigations and inspections, and design meetings with consultants. 
  • Other activities include contract administration, document control, progress reporting, budget management, permitting, variance analysis, document control, filing, and reviewing invoices. 
  • Organizing and participating in meetings with consultants, contractors, stakeholders, the public, first nations, regulatory agencies.  Preparing and distributing minutes. 
  • Ensuring a high degree of professionalism throughout all activities, consistent with corporate standards and processes. 

 

What you bring to the team 

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or closely related discipline 
  • 1-3 years of experience in design, construction, or related experience

Additional Information 

The target salary range: $83,500 - $104,300 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge and experience, and on internal equity.  Starting salary may exceed the target range on an exceptional basis.
