We are currently seeking a Senior Financial Analyst, FP&A to join our Financial Planning & Analysis (Operating) team as part of BC Ferries’ Finance Division responsible for managing BC Ferries’ 12-year capital plan, annual operating budget and ad hoc analysis as the organization’s primary business intelligence unit.

 

As a Senior Financial Analyst, you’ll play a key role in shaping the company’s financial planning and performance framework. Working within the operating stream of FP&A, you’ll support the Manager, FP&A in facilitating the annual operating budget process, quarterly forecasting, and ongoing financial reporting.

 

You’ll partner with business leaders across all operating units to provide meaningful analysis, forecasts, and recommendations that drive decision-making. This position offers a breadth of experience across diverse business units, exposure to executive leadership, and the chance to help build the tools and insights that guide BC Ferries’ operational and financial success.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis (Operating), you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as: 

  • Providing support, training, and expert advice to budget holders at all management levels in developing annual operating budgets, quarterly forecasts, and related metrics;
  • Supporting leadership on decisions impacting business units by providing financial analysis for operating initiatives, proposals, and business cases;
  • Conducting variance analysis for budget holders and diversional leadership, comparing actual performance to planned and historical financial results and key metrics, focusing on timeliness, risks, issues, and opportunities;
  • Creating, enhancing, and maintaining robust financial and business planning models that consider multiple drivers and translate those drivers into meaningful budgets;
  • Collaborating on FP&A process improvements, providing input to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of budgeting and reporting;
  • Advocating and modeling understanding and promotion of cost drivers and cost control;
  • Promoting and supporting financial awareness by providing training, advice, and assistance on financial and accounting policies, processes, and information systems functionality;

 

What you bring to the team

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or related field
  • Professional accounting designation or related advanced degree is an asset
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a relevant finance role. Practical experience in a FP&A role is preferred
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and develop solutions by considering financial and non-financial perspectives
  • Understanding of forecasting, financial modelling and management reporting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, articulating ideas clearly and effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal and proven relationship building skills
  • Ability to show leadership and influence business decisions as a trusted advisor
  • A detail oriented, team player who is self-motivated, organized, adaptable and curious
  • Strong financial modelling and Excel skills, with the ability to balance data analysis and information with timely decision making
  • Experience with an ERP system (i.e. Oracle), FP&A software and/or advanced analytics software (i.e. Power BI) is desirable

Additional information

This is a regular full-time position with a target salary range of $105,200 to $131,500 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity.
