The Opportunity

Working as part of a dynamic, results-driven Terminal Engineering department, you are a creative, detail-oriented professional responsible for developing, preparing, reviewing, analyzing, and designing CAD drawings and technical reports. Our team is responsible for the development, construction, maintenance, and repair of ferry terminals and marine structures. You liaise with project management and maintenance teams using your skills and experience to provide excellent customer service. You are comfortable working to deadlines and can prioritize your work to meet project and maintenance schedules.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Director, Terminal Construction, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Performing technical duties related to the planning, construction, and maintenance of terminals and buildings including developing preliminary designs for new buildings, roads, berths or ramps, and revisions to existing structures;
  • Preparing engineering drawings on a computer aided design system; performing mathematical calculations to establish elevations of structures, operating parameters and other design factors; applies engineering specifications; interprets design briefs, notes and sketches from design engineers, surveyors, terminal and ships personnel and private agencies;
  • Updating, revising and analyzing drawings; preparing and producing artwork in support of proposed projects;
  • Conducting site inspections of terminals, shipyards, and ships to collect accurate data in the planning and design of marine structures; and upgrading existing file drawings to reflect current or “as built” status;
  • Preparing and distributing reports; controlling and maintaining the security of drawings, libraries, and legal files; developing, updating and distributing standards and ordering supplies and materials;
  • Providing graphic services and technical expertise to other BCF departments;
  • Researching equipment and supply information; maintaining computer drawing and data files; and supplying blueprints for projects;

 

What you bring to the team

  • Diploma or Certificate from a recognized institute in draughting or other related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with civil, marine, or structural draughting
  • Minimum 2 years’ AutoCad experience and/or training
  • You are a results-driven self-starter with excellent communication and problem-solving skills with a strong focus on client services
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Experience with civil and marine surveying, SharePoint and network drive archiving, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) would be assets
