DIRECTOR, COMMUNITY RELATIONS

The Opportunity

We are looking for a senior leader to join our External Engagement team. As a Director, Community Relations you build trust and support BC Ferries initiatives and ensure communities and interested/impacted groups are well informed and engaged.

The Role
Reporting to the Executive Director, External Engagement, you add value and are energized by:

  • Providing strategic advice and guidance to BC Ferries staff and leading the community engagement strategy
  • Developing priorities and goals related to community relations and interested / impacted group relations in the organization, in collaboration with Executive Director and Vice President, Public Affairs and Marketing
  •  Budget tracking and allocation and leading the community investment function
  • Gathering concerns, considerations, needs, and opportunities from project feedback groups, advisory committees, and interested / impacted groups and communities, maintaining a strong feedback loop and reporting processes
  • Collaborating with advisory groups and panels, interested and impacted groups and communities, to nudge behavioral change and introduce new processes, services and experiences
  • Leading all aspects of community and interested/impacted group outreach, engagement, and evaluation, including the development of in-person and virtual materials to support external engagements and events.  Working closely with the indigenous relations team on topics of mutual interest
  • Maintaining strong relationships BC Ferries leaders, staff and supporting the public affairs and marketing team with shared goals, as required

 

What you bring to the team

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Communications, Public Affairs, Public Engagement or related field
  • Professional designation with International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) or other similar designations
  • 10+ years of experience leading large-scale public participation and external engagements in-person and virtually
  • 1-3 years of experience in working with local, provincial and/or federal governments
  • 4-6 years of supervisory experience, including mentorship, performance management and People administration
  • Extensive experience in strategic communications and community engagement with strong understanding of media relations, social media, and marketing principles
  • Understanding of engagement practices including but not limited to trauma-informed inquiry, decolonizing practices, and social and accessible equity based inquiry

Additional information

The target salary range: $159,800 - $199,700 per annum.  The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity.
