The Opportunity

As part of BC Ferries’ Asset Management Improvement Program (AMIP), we are seeking dedicated and detail-oriented Materials Coordinators to improve inventory accuracy across terminal regions. In this role, you will visit multiple sites to locate and document inventory storage locations, physically inspect items and assets, and record this information in comprehensive spreadsheets. You will compare your findings against current Maximo records, capturing essential details such as descriptions, attributes, and quantities, working closely with Engineering and on-site Material Coordinators.

Additionally, you will identify obsolete items for disposal, ensure missing items and assets are properly documented and updated in Maximo, and create physical labels for items or assets to be affixed in designated storage areas. You will also coordinate with the SCM Business Support Specialist to develop travel schedules for ongoing inventory and asset audits. This role supports the RBM process and contributes to sparing strategies for all assets across the fleet, including terminals and vessels.

The Role

  • Perform inventory control functions aligned with central inventory management.
  • Organize inventory locations and optimize the use of space.
  • Ensure all inventory is properly labeled and stored in appropriate locations to preserve asset condition.

  • Operate motorized equipment for moving and storing goods.
  • Visit sites to locate inventory storage locations and physically inspect items/assets.
  • Travel extensively to multiple terminals and vessel locations as required to conduct inventory audits and asset verifications.
  • Capture and maintain detailed spreadsheets of inventory including descriptions, attributes, and quantities.
  • Compare physical inventory with Maximo records to identify discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to update Maximo with missing items and asset details.
  • Identify obsolete items and coordinate their proper disposal through inventory and asset disposal processes.
  • Create and affix physical labels with item and asset numbers to items/assets in designated storage locations.
  • Work with the SCM Business Support Specialist to create and maintain travel schedules for ongoing inventory and asset audits.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you bring to the team

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess situations and make independent decisions.
  • Experience with BCF and Maximo software for data entry and retrieval.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of inventory management, warehousing practices, and buying principles.
  • Familiarity with trade and engineering materials and equipment.
  • Strong team orientation and ability to work under pressure.

Education and Certifications
