The Opportunity

Our Information Technology team is the backbone of our operations – ensuring systems run smoothly, securely, and reliably. We’re looking for a skilled Database Specialist who’s passionate about data availability / integrity, performance and security to join our team and help us manage and protect the information that drives our business.

 

As a key member of the Data Services team, you’ll administer and optimize databases that support financial, HR, safety, retail, supply chain, and contract systems. You’ll also lead and mentor other Data Services staff, and oversee Oracle Application servers (WebLogic, SOA Suite). Your expertise will be critical in installation, upgrades, troubleshooting, tuning, monitoring and upkeep of these environments.

 

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Manager, Data Services, you’ll contribute value through:

  • Leading and supporting Data Services staff in database and middleware operations
  • Installing, upgrading, tuning, and troubleshooting Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL, and Sybase databases
  • Designing and implementing secure, high-performance database and middleware solutions
  • Developing and maintaining standards for database administration, ensuring data integrity, security and high availability
  • Collaborating with application development teams to optimize access, backup, and recovery practices
  • Proactively monitoring systems to prevent downtime and performance issues
  • Contributing to disaster recovery planning and execution across the data lifecycle

 

What You Bring

Education & Certifications

  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science or a related IT discipline from a recognized institution
  • Equivalent work experience in Information Technology will also be considered
  • ITIL training or certification (asset)
  • Oracle Professional Certification (asset)

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 6 years in a technical analytic role within a systems development environment
  • At least 6 years of Oracle database administration experience
  • 2+ years of Oracle Fusion Middleware experience
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, HA setups, and Oracle Applications administration
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Control 13c and other enterprise management / monitoring tools
  • Experience with disaster recovery and data lifecycle management initiatives
  • Working knowledge of Azure or Oracle OCI (asset)
  • Experience with MSSQL Server, WebLogic, SOA Suite, Oracle Multitenant architecture, and Oracle 19c / 23ai

 

This role is based in Victoria, BC. We offer a flexible hybrid work model, with a mix of remote and in-office days tailored to team and project needs.

Additional Information

The target salary range: $105,200 - $131,500 per annum.  The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge and experience, and on internal equity.
