ADVISOR, ABILITIES MANAGEMENT

Victoria or Vancouver Lower Mainland

18-month Term

 

The Opportunity

We are searching for compassionate, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable Advisor, Abilities Management to join our team and help ensure our employees feel supported through illness, injury, and their safe return to work. You will be responsible for employee-facing adjudication of Short-Term Illness and Injury Plan (STIIP) claims, as well as the coordination of Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) cases across a dedicated portfolio. The Role

Reporting to the Manager, Abilities Management, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Overseeing occupational and non-occupational injury/illness cases, collaborating with internal stakeholders and healthcare professionals
  • Facilitating a safe return to work, aiming to support a healthy workforce, minimizing absences, and managing disability costs effectively
  • Coordinating case management activities of all occupational and non occupational injuries and illnesses to support safe, timely, and sustainable returns to work
  • Providing technical guidance and expertise to support disability benefit eligibility, adjudication, ongoing management, and evaluation of complex STIIP, LTD, and WCB claims
  • Maintaining a high level of support for employees through frequent communication with the employee, collaborating with the employee and their care providers in development of goals and objectives compatible to the employee’s disability, monitoring the progress of the employee, communicating, and collaborating with managers and union representatives
  • Liasing with medical and other health care professionals to ensure accurate, timely, and complete information to support sick leave claims and planning for return to work and/or accommodation
  • Developing and implementing return to work and disability management policies and procedures in accordance with legal requirements and the collective agreement
  • Interpreting and applying collective agreement provisions related to STIIP and Return To Work processes working within the WCB Act and Regulation, Human Rights Legislation and Long Term Disability Benefit Plans
  • Providing support and educating managers and employees off work on related processes, collective agreements and applicable legislation
  • Maintaining general awareness of applicable legislation including Employment Standards Act (ESA), Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Personal Privacy Act (FOIPPA), and ensuring compliance within area of responsibility
  • Interacting on a regular basis with third party providers (i.e. Canada Life, Sunlife, WorkSafe BC) that provide assistance and support with the disability administration requirements

 

What you bring to the team

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in health related discipline such as disability management, health sciences,  kinesiology, nursing, occupational therapy, or physiotherapy
  • 4-6 years of experience in disability management activities and return-to-work planning. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Solid Knowledge and experience in the areas of human resources, disability management, case management, occupational health and safety, and rehabilitation
  • Strong Understanding of labour relations issues relevant to health and wellness, workplace safety and disability management including extensive knowledge of employee benefits and compensation

Additional information

The target salary range is $83,500 - $104,300 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience, and internal equity.
