The Opportunity

As a key member of the Information Technology team, you develop, maintain, and support the Cognos suite of BI tools including Enterprise Planning. As an innovative trouble-shooter, you provide Cognos application support and diagnose complex application problems within the Finance, Human Resources, Business and Maintenance Applications. You work with Business Analysts, Developers and Architects to understand business requirements, and to develop detailed design specifications. You assist in diagnosing and correcting problems related to infrastructure and databases, and assist with IBM Cognos server software installations, upgrades and testing, as well as configure models of packaged applications.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Director, Data and Analytics, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Providing second and third tier Cognos application support;
  • Monitoring and managing the BI Support mailbox and BI Service Desk queue;
  • Managing Access Control requests;
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing complex application problems, often involving several applications or subject areas which includes data in Financial, Human Resource, Business or Maintenance Applications;
  • Working with Business Analysts, Developers and Architects to understand business requirements and develop detailed design specifications;
  • Under direction, providing application support to maintain, correcting and providing response regarding application functionality;
  • Assisting in diagnosing and correcting problems related to infrastructure and databases;
  • Assisting with IBM Cognos server software installations, upgrades and testing, ensuring interface compatibility with other systems within the organization;
  • Configuring models of packaged applications;
  • Assisting with QA, troubleshooting and maintaining overall integrity of the data reported from the Cognos systems;
  • Writing technical proposals, manuals and reports;
  • Participating in facilitating weekly team meetings, reviewing incidents, service requests, problems, and changes;
  • Providing orientation, guidance and informal training to other employees. 

What you bring to the team

  • Degree or Diploma in Computer Science or an IT-related discipline, and/or equivalent work experience in Information Technology
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a Business Intelligence (BI) role including:
  • Cognos Report and Query Studio
  • Cube design and development
  • Framework Manager Modelling
  • ETL tools (e.g., DataStage)
  • Experience working with the following would be an asset:
  • Data Warehousing (ETL)
  • Enterprise Planning
  • Metrics
  • Knowledge of ITIL Framework
  • Ability to accurately capture business requirement, by efficiently analyzing, customer needs, organizing information into appropriate models, and complete and correct report specifications
