SENIOR OPERATIONS COORDINATOR

The Opportunity

A proactive leader and operational problem-solver, you are responsible for the efficient and effective coordination of BC Ferries’ Commercial Services operations. With a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and customer service excellence, you will oversee day-to-day commercial activities, including drop-trailer services, while contributing to the strategic and financial goals of the organization.

You will work closely with Operations Managers, the Commercial Services team, Safety and Maintenance departments, and external stakeholders to ensure operational continuity, compliance, and continuous improvement. You are results-oriented, metrics-driven, and thrive in dynamic environments where innovation and stakeholder engagement are key to success.

 

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Fleet Manager, you add value and are energized by oversight of key operational areas such as: 
  • Manages and oversees Commercial operations including drop-trailer in a safe and efficient manner
  • Actively engagements and coordinates with the Safety Department and Commercial Services team to ensure safety standards are upheld and maintained
  • Coordinates with Terminal Maintenance and other key vendors to uphold maintenance schedules and facilitate key projects
  • Assist in the training and supervision of staff members to align employee performance with organizational objectives
  • Ensure maximum employee productivity while maintaining compliance with both provincial, and federal labour and transportation laws
  • Identifies and develops operational improvement opportunities based on customer trends, volume analysis and asset management
  • Continuously monitors and reviews through metrics and analytics all aspects of the Commercial industry and competition
  • Develops exceptional relationships with all stakeholders inclusive of Customers, Industry Associations and operating/staff departments
  • Develops strategic communications plans to inform Commercial customers and internal stakeholders of operating changes or needs in a timely basis
  • Supports the Commercial Services team with respect to all business and operational initiatives
  • Assist the Commercial team with employee relations and engagement issues
  • Analyze existing business procedures, outline improvement strategies, and oversee the implementation of business process improvements.
  • Ensure that operations are carried out in a cost-effective, and efficient manner in alignment with company and regulatory standards
  • Supports capital projects, including preparation and submission of business cases and reports
  • Contribute towards the achievement of strategic and operational objectives as determined by the General Manager
  • Manage relationships and procurement processes with external partners to coordinate material, asset, and resource allocation to satisfy operational needs

 

What you bring to the team?

 

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Safety, or a related discipline preferred.

Experience

  • Considerable experience in operations management, preferably within the transportation or logistics industry.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving operational and financial goals.
  • Strong background in data analysis, volume forecasting, and performance optimization.
  • Experience in employee supervision, training, and engagement.

Additional information

This is a regular, full-time position with a salary range of $83,500 to $104,300 per annum.  The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to experience, education and performance, related to this role.
