FLEET ESTIMATOR – MARINE PROJECTS

The Opportunity

This is a full-time position based at our Fleet Maintenance Unit in Richmond, with occasional travel to vessel locations and terminals, including outside regular work hours.

We are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Estimator – Marine Projects to support our technical operations and capital project planning.

 

As an Estimator, you play a key role in supporting the planning and execution of complex vessel projects. You bring cost estimation expertise and technical knowledge to projects involving new construction, vessel conversions, refits, and capital repairs. Your work directly supports operational planning, budget development, contractor management, and regulatory compliance. You are analytical, organized, and comfortable working across technical and operational teams. You communicate clearly, work collaboratively, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced marine environment.

 

The Role

Reporting to the General Manager, your key areas of responsibility are:

  • Supporting project and engineering teams with accurate and timely cost estimates, technical input, and procurement coordination across a wide range of fleet projects;
  • Preparing detailed labour and material estimates for new construction, conversions, and vessel refits;
  • Liaising with contractors and suppliers to confirm pricing, availability, and lead times;
  • Conducting site visits and vessel surveys to validate scopes of work;
  • Reviewing specifications and developing contractor bid packages;
  • Analyzing contractor bids and scope changes, and supporting negotiation when required;
  • Assisting in business case preparation and post-project variance analysis;
  • Providing technical advice on project planning and regulatory requirements;
  • Ensuring required material testing and certification processes are completed;
  • Acting as the owner's on-site representative during project execution;
  • Supporting internal teams with budget planning and reporting;

 

What You Bring to the Team

  • A three-year technical or business diploma, or a Red Seal Journeyman Trades certification
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a shipyard, marine design, or fleet maintenance environment
  • Proficiency in Maximo CMMS, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); basic CAD and SharePoint skills
  • Strong judgment, communication, and organizational skills
  • A results-driven, detail-oriented approach with a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and customer service

Additional Information

Target salary range: $83,500 – $104,300 per annum. The starting salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience, and internal equity.
