Job Description

DIRECTOR, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, FOOD, RETAIL & ANCILLARY OPERATIONS

Swartz Bay, Tsawwassen or other locations

 

The Opportunity

We are searching for a visionary leader who can inspire a large and diverse team of 10 professionals in a dynamic environment to join our team.  As a Director, Business Development, Food, Retail & Ancillary Operations, you lead and oversee the development and implementation of the strategic vision and operational plan for Food, Retail and Ancillary Operations for existing outlets and services, and new vessel builds, encompassing 64 operations in 21 locations. You are responsible for driving growth and leading initiatives to enhance profitability, holding profit and loss accountability for the business units, with an annual revenue budget of $125 million with cost of sales of $47 million and expenditures of $6 million.   

 

As a dynamic leader, you oversee a broad spectrum of functions including financial analysis and cost of sales accounting; product, equipment and supply selection; procurement of goods for resale, equipment and services; contract and vendor management; equipment management and interior finishing standards; warehousing, logistics and inventory management; concept development; establishing standards including production, sales, merchandising, and quality control inspections.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, Catering Operations, Food, Retail & Ancillary Operations, you add value to the team by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Developing the strategic and operational plan for food, retail and ancillary services for the existing fleet and future new vessels;
  • Leading market research, tracking industry trends, assessing business opportunities and directing and conducting financial analysis and modeling to ensure operation efficiency and profit maximization;
  • Implementing the strategic and operational plans for new business initiatives and for passenger and crew areas on new vessels and for major modifications;
  • Leading the development of interior and food service equipment design standards, directing marketing and IT efforts, preparing business cases and funding requests, and collaborating with operational experts to ensure a high-quality product;
  • Overseeing procurement and management of fleet-wide food, retail and ancillary contracts, including vendor selection, negotiations, and contract processes;
  • Managing food and retail warehouse operations, ensuring inventory control, safety systems, training, staffing, and accounting are in place;
  • Overseeing the preparation and management of the department’s expenditure, fleet-wide ancillary revenue, cost of sales budgets, and financial analysis;
  • Designing and optimizing work unit structures, leading people recruitment, coaching and performance efforts and fostering staff growth and development through succession planning, training, and development opportunities;

 

What you bring to the team

  • You have completed a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing, Supply Chain Management or related fields AND a Master’s degree (advanced business education e.g., MBA or CPA)
  • You bring 10+ years’ experience in business development, operations and financial management experience, preferably within the food, retail, or ancillary services industry at a progressively more senior level

Additional information

The target salary range: $155,100 - $193,900 per annum.  The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
