MANAGER, INDIGENOUS RELATIONS

The opportunity

We are searching for a relationship builder with strong project management, business acumen and change management skills to lead the BC Ferries Indigenous Relations team, to continue developing and implementing corporate First Nations, Indigenous relations and engagement effort.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, External Engagement, you add value by:

  • Leading discussions with First Nations communities on matters of interest, including the development of formal agreements where required;
  • Providing advice and recommendations to staff including executive, based on the outcomes of these discussions;
  • Supporting formal consultation activities to meet crown agency requirements is also part of this role;
  • Ensuring build policies and processes in partnership with other divisions to develop organizational capacity in working with First Nations communities;
  • Leading and coaching the Indigenous Relations Team;
  • Working closely with capital project leads, the Public Affairs and Marketing Division, and others to ensure BC Ferries is meeting its protocol commitments and creating shared opportunities for First Nations communities in B.C.

 

What you bring to the team

You are a leader in First Nations relationship building with strong supervisory, negotiation, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal relationship skills. You are exceptional in building cultural awareness, understanding and capacity within an organization. You have a degree in Indigenous studies, law, public policy, business, or related field. You bring extended experience managing relationships and negotiating agreements with or on behalf of Indigenous communities.  

Preference will be given to candidates who identify as Indigenous.

Additional information

The target salary range: $95,600 to $119,500 per annum.  The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
