The opportunity

The purpose of the Operations and Security Centre (OSC) is to provide 24/7 central monitoring and support to our Company’s Operations inclusive of its vessels, terminals, people, assets, technology, and systems. The OSC team enhances our safety and customer focus.

 

As a member of the OSC’s frontline team, you are an integral part of the OSC’s effectiveness. Your main responsibilities include monitoring BCF assets, collecting relevant information and initiating corrective action as required. Where necessary, you will also facilitate conversations; give advice and direction relative to Company policy, operational requirements, and matters of safety and security.

 

The role

Reporting to the Operation Centre Manager, and Operations Centre Senior Officer, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Receiving security and operational incident telephone calls and emails from across the organization and inputting the information into the iSail data base and initiate the appropriate level of response;
  • Initiating company’s Recovery Plans;
  • Implementing and responding to the Company’s security plan (MARSEC levels);
  • Ensuring compliance with federal MTSR (Marine Transportation Security Regulations);
  • Refining the processes and procedures of the OSC, toward continuous improvement;
  • Communicating with various managers, employees, security officers, and external agencies (e.g. RCMP);
  • Security and operational monitoring through CCTV and alarm systems;
  • Providing consistent, professional customer focused messaging in Service Notices;
  • Coordinating communications with 3rd parties during an incident (e.g. Transport Canada, Class, EMCR, RCMP, BC Ambulance);
  • Utilizing data and statistical information to perform analysis and make recommendations of process and/or technology improvements to enhance the service delivery model;
  • Creating reports for incident investigations (operational and security);
  • Monitoring security access to confidential or sensitive employee information (e.g. crew lists, employee records, emergency contacts and numbers, etc.);
  • Gathering data for operational and security incident investigations and FOI reporting requirements;

 

What you bring to the team

You have a post-secondary degree or diploma and/or equivalent experience in marine transportation operations and/or emergency services. You bring minimum 2 years’ experience with BCF’s operations including terminal/tower experience and operational fleet management experience or relevant experience. Security technologies and systems and critical dispatch centre is an asset, as is experience working with emergency services/incident command centres.

Additional information

The target salary range: $78,000 - $83,500 per annum.  The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity.
