The Opportunity

We are looking for a Manager, Travel Services to join our Product and Consumer Marketing team. As a critical part of the team, you lead and guide a team towards achieving both sales targets and long-term business goals. You manage a diverse set of responsibilities ranging from sales targets to vendor management, team development, and strategic growth.

Your role as the leader is crucial to the ongoing success and evolution of the Travel Services division as well as growing BC Ferries’ place in the BC Tourism Industry. You provide strategic leadership and lead BC Ferries’ business in the tourism sector in BC to ensure we work strategically and cohesively with our industry partners to reach our brand and sales objectives.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Director, Product and Consumer Marketing, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Developing shared goals, objectives, and priorities for key areas of travel services, travel and tourism sales and product development.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of the companies tourism strategy with internal and external stakeholders to increase brand awareness, revenue, and promote discretionary travel across the BC Ferries system
  • Leading, developing and implementing tourism strategies to achieve sales targets and revenue goals for the tourism sector. Continuously improving travel trade sales processes and strategies to stay competitive in the marketplace.
  • Responsible for relationship management, partnership growth, revenue growth and key partner escalations. Manage and oversee growth and development of team. Continually assess strengths and challenges of team providing coaching, mentoring, and training.
  • Executing and evaluating ongoing market and industry research and adjusting strategies to meet changing market and competitive conditions.
  • Improving product marketability and probability by researching, identifying, and capitalizing on marketing opportunities, improving product line up and seeking new product development opportunities.
  • Working closely with Tourism associations and local tour operators to develop strategies and partnerships to drive cross water traffic.
  • Leveraging tourism partnerships and destination marketing opportunities promoting destinations and travel itineraries on the BC Ferries' website, as well as creating promotions and sales opportunities to increase discretionary travel to off-peak sailings.
  • Overseeing the BC Ferries travel trade promotion programs for BC Ferries, seeking new opportunities for growth including our tariff strategies, tour operators, partners, and travel agent bookings.

 

What you bring to the team

You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Travel, Communications, Hospitality, Management, Business Administration, or a related field. With a minimum of 7 years in a leadership role within the tourism industry, you bring extensive experience in both the transportation and tourism sectors. You have a proven track record of successfully building, leading, and coaching teams of experienced professionals in dynamic, fast-paced environments. Additionally, you are adept at analyzing industry trends and leveraging data to drive informed decision-making. Your expertise extends to sourcing, contract management, vendor performance, and product buying, including negotiating rates, terms, and conditions with suppliers. You also have a solid background in leading small projects to successful outcomes.

Additional information

The target salary range: $121,800 - $152,200 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
