DIRECTOR, PEOPLE RECRUITMENT & TOTAL REWARDS

The opportunity

BC Ferries is embarking on an exciting transformation, and we want to invite you to join us on this journey. We are searching for a Director, People Recruitment & Total Rewards to lead the development of innovative and impactful recruitment and total rewards strategies.  In this role, you will provide strategic direction on recruitment initiatives, external partnerships, and operational recruitment activities. Additionally, you will implement total rewards programs and manage compensation and benefits programs to support the attraction and retention of top talent.

 

As a Director, People Recruitment & Total Rewards, you will also lead the design, compliance and funding projections for compensation, benefits, and classification programs, ensuring they remain competitive and aligned with BC Ferries’ strategic objectives.

The Role

Reporting to the Vice President, People and Safety, you add value by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Providing subject matter expertise in the areas of recruitment, compensation, benefits, HRIS implementation and organizational design;
  • Participating in strategic discussions with various stakeholders concerning initiatives and changes in organizational structures and compensation programs;
  • Leading annual compensation cycles, including the salary review process, participation in external surveys and management of incentive compensation programs;
  • Managing executive compensation programs and supporting the Chief People Officer in their management and development, including the preparation of executive compensation disclosure information;
  • Driving the DEI-focused total rewards strategy by delivering processes and tools that ensure equitable, high-quality and competitive total rewards programs;
  • Developing short-term and long-term People transformation strategies, focusing on HRIS implementation and process modernization;
  • Leading change management efforts to ensure seamless adoption of People transformation while addressing resistance;
  • Developing and implementing recruitment strategies that support the company wide workforce plan and BC Ferries’ strategic direction;
  • Leading the development of department goals, objectives, and systems for effective recruitment and talent development;
  • Driving change management initiatives to ensure a smooth transition to a new HRIS system while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence;
  • Enhancing efficiency and People experience through the modernization of recruitment and total rewards processes;
  • Developing and implementing processes that foster team success and establishing clear performance review plans for the team;
  • Working with local partners to increase awareness of the marine industry within BC as well as setting up international pipelines for talent;
  • Providing governance to the job evaluation process to ensure and maintain internal equity and compliance with employment standards across the organization;
  • Developing, implementing, communicating and monitoring corporate People policies, and recommending modifications based on organizational strategic plans, applicable legislation, and market trends;
  • Conducting market research to enhance competitive compensation and total rewards programs to support the attraction and retention of top talent;

 What you bring to the team

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related discipline. Master’s Degree preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in talent management, recruitment, total rewards, HRIS implementation, change management and business transformation
  • 7-9 years of experience in developing People strategies aligned with broader strategic business goals
  • 7-9 years of experience in designing and implementing compensation structures, benefits programs, and total rewards strategies across various organizational levels including union, exempt, managers, directors and executives

Additional information

The target salary range: $155,100 - $193,900 per annum.  The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
