The Opportunity

BC Ferries is seeking a subject matter expert with proven experience leading the development and implementation of Procurement and Commercial activities to join the team in an exciting new opportunity. 

In order to address the challenges brought on by constrained system capacity, aging major assets, and environmental sustainability, BC Ferries is launching a new Fleet Renewal Program that will see a large number of new major and minor vessels introduced to the fleet in the near term as well as significant builds and upgrades to shore-based infrastructure and facilities.  These projects together form the largest capital investment in the company’s history.

 

The new position of Director, Procurement & Commercial will be a leadership role within the Fleet Renewal Program structure.  Reporting directly to the Program Head, Fleet Renewal, this position is responsible for the material readiness of the entire program. Core responsibilities include strategy development, procurement planning, and program execution in a high-tempo, agile environment.  Additional responsibilities include managing end-to-end supply chain operations, contract compliance, vendor management, and internal/external stakeholder engagement. This position acts as a key liaison between the Program and corporate teams to ensure success of the procurement and logistics strategies with strategic goals of the Program, while also ensuring legal compliance with regulatory bodies.  This position is also instrumental in supporting procurement processes and contract awarding and management. 

 

The Role

Reporting to the Program Head, Fleet Renewal, you add value by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Providing logistics, procurement and supply chain expertise, leadership, and supervision to the Fleet Renewal Program, including to members of the procurement team.
  • Ensuring appropriate alignment between corporate requirements, and the commercial and procurement needs, standards and policies of the Program.
  • Providing professional leadership and tactical support for formal competitive tendering and contract life cycle management.
  • Evaluating, developing and implementing strategic supply and sourcing solutions for the procurement of goods and services that strengthens supplier relationships.
  • Leading the development and execution of the procurement strategies, including developing procurement documentation and overseeing bid evaluation processes; providing support during commercial negotiations, such as RFP process and project change requests.
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to create effective business processes and departmental relationships.

What you bring to the team

  • Post secondary degree or graduate degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Supply Management, Project Management and/or related field.
  • 10 years progressive experience in procurement/supply chain roles, including experience in a leadership role with accountability for major programs with significant complexity.
  • Experience with sourcing, (legal) contract and vendor performance management.
  • Experience leading cross functional teams, including in a project-oriented environment.
  • You have expert level analytical thinking, collaboration, functional knowledge, ability to influence, and problem solving skills.
  • You have senior level communication skills, leadership skills, and ability to manage change.
  • Experience working in a maritime, ship-building, ship-repair, or marine infrastructure environment (preferred).

Additional Information

The target salary range: $155,100 - $193,900 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience, and internal equity.  Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
