PROJECT MANAGER

Fleet Project Management Office

Victoria or Richmond

 

The Opportunity

We are searching for a Project Manager to join our Fleet Project Management Office (FPMO) team. As a key member of the FPMO team, you are responsible for planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing of vessel projects. Typical project assignments may include: refit, dry-docking, capital modifications, conversions, emergent repairs or improvements to BCFS vessels. You oversee and monitor the project from initiation to close out, ensuring that the Project Team produces the project deliverables within budget, on schedule, at the required level of quality and within the acceptable levels of health, safety, and environmental risk.

 

The role

Reporting to the Director, Fleet Project Management Office, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Acting as a single point authority in relation to internal and external stakeholders, with respect to the projects assigned by the Director, FPMO or delegate
  • Developing and executing project plans according to established FPMO methodology.
  • Manages and develops project teams
  • Creating and maintaining collaborative working relationships with all key project impacted groups
  • Responsible for contract management related to assigned projects
  • Responsible for project change management and providing impact analysis to Project Owners
  • Following the BCFS Capital Projects Framework and Guidelines in the execution of capital projects
  • Administing and following applicable Fleet Regulations, Health, Safety, Security, Environmental policies and all applicable regulatory and legal provisions
  • Provideing project reports and updates to both internal and external partners in the approved format and frequency
  • Ensuring proper closing of projects, including the capturing and dissemination of lessons learned.
  • Assisting Project Owners in developing preliminary and detailed Business Cases
  • Ensureing value, engineering analysis, feasibility and safety, security, environmental studies are conducted when required

 

What you bring to the team

You are an accomplished maritime professional capable of managing several complex projects simultaneously. Ideally you have a Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a P.Eng., Mechanical Engineering from a recognized educational institution.  Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.  You have considerable hands-on management experience in multi-faceted projects, preferably within a shipbuilding, ship repair or marine operations environment. 

 

You work well independently and as a collaborative team member, utilizing effective problem-solving and time management skills. Proven experience in planning, executing, controlling, and closing of multiple concurrent projects is required.  Your strengths include great communication, organization, leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships. You are result-oriented and self-motivated.

 

Proficiency in MS Office Programs, Maximo, and Cognos/Oracle or similar software systems is an asset.  Formal training in project management or financial management would also be an advantage. Occasional travel and placement in overseas shipyards might be required and the successful candidate should be prepared to take on such assignments.

Additional information

The target salary range: $102,160 to $127,700 per annum.  The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
