With new public affairs leadership, the position of Executive Director, External Engagement, is a senior leadership role in the organization and one that will have broad influence to grow and evolve BC Ferries’ external engagement strategy.
As an Executive Director, External Engagement, you are responsible for the oversight of corporate strategic engagement with a mandate to build and maintain effective relationships with external interest holders including First Nations, communities, stakeholders, and all levels of government. - Planning, developing and implementing effective engagement strategies and plans linked to the company's vision, purpose, and values
- Working closely with the communications and branding teams to effectively communicate with interest holders within the context of the company communications strategy
- Providing organizational thought leadership and strategic advice on Indigenous relations, government relations, community and external engagement initiatives that drive change and deliver impact
- Leading and directing cross-functional teams, as well as consultants, on internal and external engagement initiatives to deliver strategic, performance-based results
- Overseeing stakeholder engagement efforts including relationship with the business community, associations, and relevant external agencies, including membership and corporate sponsorship programs
- Managing Indigenous relations efforts including company’s strategy, relationship protocols, and agreements within a complex and evolving legal and policy environment.
- Overseeing development of policies and programs to advance core areas of the strategy including effective relationship building, internal awareness and cultural awareness and recognition
- Overseeing the company’s government relations efforts for all levels of government municipal, regional, provincial and federal including with political representatives. As well as appropriate governance and processes to ensure effective communication with government entities including standards for briefings and development and approval of documents

The purpose of the Operations and Security Centre (OSC) is to provide 24/7 central monitoring and support to our Company’s Operations inclusive of its vessels, terminals, people, assets, technology, and systems. As Master, you lead the shipboard management team and are responsible for safety; departmental leadership; crew supervision and a strong customer service focus. The Master ensures efficient vessel operations, including navigation, route and ship management, regulatory compliance; maintaining operational records and logs, and supporting the business performance of the vessel. The Master oversees crew training in fire, safety and boat drills, ensure that safety equipment is operational and provide leadership in emergency situations.
As an Excluded Master, you:
- ensure regulatory compliance with a high level of importance on overall safety;
- hold a Transport Canada-approved Master’s Certification (Near Coastal or Master Mariner);
- have suitable working experience as a Chief Officer or Master of a vessel over 350 GRT including management of the activities of deck and shipboard employees;
- act as an on-watch management representative for the Company;
- are computer proficient with a good working knowledge of current software programs;
- are an innovative leader with a strong focus on customer service and Company objectives; and
- Ensure high standards of mariner professionalism and employee relations at all times.

The opportunity
Working closely with Management and Executives, and as part of a dynamic, results-driven team, you are an achievement oriented individual, who proposes creative and effective solutions for business opportunities and ensures the respective projects align with strategic business needs. As an Assistant Project Manager, you manage the delivery of a workstream of small - medium sized projects, and initiatives in support of business initiatives. You are responsible for managing projects in accordance with a defined scope, schedule and budget using sound project management methodologies that are aligned with the Project Management Institute's (PMI®) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®). As the primary point person, you ensure that the proper resources are allocated to a project, manages those resources (people, capital, time) to meet critical milestones and objectives, identifies and manages issues, and tracks and reports project status.
The Role
Reporting to the Director, IT Projects, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:
- Defining project scope, goals and deliverables that support business needs in collaboration with stakeholders and management
- Contributing to the development of the client’s short and long term strategic plans as they relate to the respective project portfolio
- Establishing and managing effective change control processes
- Reporting status to project stakeholders including project Owner, Sponsor, Steering Committee;
- Conducting and supporting team member performance management activities
- Analyzing and evaluating client needs and advises on timing and priorities of projects
- Defining project success criteria and disseminating information to involved parties throughout project life cycle
- Conducting project post implementation reviews and contributing to lessons learned repository; Utilizing previous lessons learned in project planning
- Developing and growing any business relationships vital to the success of the project
- Identifying inter-dependencies, conflicting requirements, and overlapping impact on business processes and IT services and architectures across projects
What you bring to the team
You have a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. You also bring minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in project management, project analyst, project coordination or relevant experience.
