    Currently we are recruiting for an exciting fleet operations position in Nanaimo; at our Departure Bay and Duke Point Terminals.


    Licensed Deck Officers



    Exciting opportunities currently exist with BC Ferries to be part of our Nanaimo crew. If you hold a minimum chief mate certificate, like variety in your work schedule and have some flexibility to work on different classes of vessels, this could be the perfect role. Based out of one of our 2 terminals in Nanaimo, you will have an opportunity to train on various vessels and work with a variety of engaged, safety conscious crew members.


    You are a passionate, innovative, leader with the ability to communicate and liaise cooperatively with shipboard personnel and other BCFS departments. You serve as the ship’s Executive Officer in the conduct of deck department activities including loading/unloading vehicles and passengers; navigation; ship husbandry; passenger/vessel safety; supervision; plan, direct, and organize crew, delegate vessel duties, and provide regular training and performance feedback. In addition, you perform various administrative duties relating to deck safety, security, maintenance, and crew. You possess considerable knowledge of applicable navigating equipment and techniques, ship handling principles, stability, seamanship and deck maintenance. In addition to your technical skills, you provide strong leadership to your crew and maintain strong safety protocol and a commitment to exemplary customer service.


    You are computer literate and have clear, concise, English communication skills. A familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite would be an asset.  The successful candidate will hold a valid Chief Mate, Master Mariner or Master, Near Coastal certificate as required by Transport Canada and must obtain a valid a Seafarers’ medical prior to commencing employment.
